Hey!
I'm Merlijn
I'm a Software Engineer in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
I try to build solutions that are actually useful.
Selected projects
Fermenta
fermentation tracking app (waitlist)
An app to help with fermentation recipes at home. Built because I wanted to track fermentations over many days and be reminded of the actions and specifics of each step.
Deep learning framework
from scratch
A learning project: I built the core building blocks (tensors/backpropagation) from scratch so I'd understand what's happening, not just use a library.
EEG / BCI classification
project
Applied Machine Learning to classify brain signals from real/imagined movement. Part research-y, part engineering: brain signal theory, big datasets, preprocessing, evaluation, and lots of "why is this noisy".
More: If you want the full list, GitHub is the source of truth.
About
I'm Merlijn, a software engineer based in Amsterdam.
At my day job I analyse workflows and data, and build end-to-end solutions. Some days that means replacing manual processes with custom software. Other days it's Business Intelligence or setting up automation that supports engineers. I manage my own projects and enjoy bridging the gap between "what we want" and "what we can deliver".
I care about the full loop:
- • understand the problem (including the human parts)
- • reduce it to something buildable
- • ship a simple solution
- • iterate until it's not a problem anymore
Codam (Algorithms & AI)
I graduated from Codam Advanced (Algorithms & AI). Codam is a project-based software engineering school (part of the 42 network): you learn by building and peer-reviewing, not by following lectures.
I was the first to finish the AI curriculum at Codam. This was before coding agents were a thing, so most of it was self-taught: reading, experimenting, and building from scratch.
Outside work
I am exploring indie-hacking to learn what it takes to ship a product, from idea to launch.
